Thought's on the Nikon D7100

The Nikon D7100 is a beast of a camera.

Image quality is Pro level quality - There is a catch, you can't use just any lens on this camera(Well, you can but at a loss of image quality).
Because it has no "Optical Low Pass Filter", it requires that you use high-end Nikkor glass to
take advantage of the high megapixel(24mp) that it offers. The glass can get expensive. :)

The focus is awesome. Many people are having problems with precise focusing with moving objects.  I personally just use the one focus point in the middle and move it as I see fit. After I have 51 focus points to play with.  When using the auto focus point make sure that it is set up correctly(Look at the manual or go on youtube). I personally think that we don't need all those helper focus point when shooting non moving object or better said, non sports. It works well with everyday moving object.  I personally have come to like me controlling the focus point manually. I focus where I want to focus, period.  It actually seems to work faster for me when using auto focus.I use the AF-C with manual focus points to be controlled by me.

Ergonomics are also something I've come to get use to and like very much.  Feels almost natural, like common sense(Something most humans lack) :)

The menu has everything you would want in a camera like this, afterall, it is designed with the D4 and D800 in mind.

It has awesome low  light capabilities, better than most at that level of performance(7D, 70D, D7000, A77, ETC)

Dynamic range is better than all cameras at that level, period.  Something that Pros look for.

Now the video features, It has an amazin Video IQ and great video quality. Still is not better than Canon and leaps and bound below Panasonic VIdeo IQ. For the average film-maker it is good enough but for the Film-maker enthusiast this is not acceptable.

Liveview, well I don't use liveview much so I won't spend to much time on the liveview subject.
Liveview is great, LCD screen has probably the highest resolution in any camera, I think.  :)
Still, Canon's liveview is better in everyway.
NOTE: You cannot control aperture in liveview with Nikon cameras. Why? I have no fracking idea. Call and ask them. It's definitely a huge flaw Nikon's have.

Like I said, I was making this short.
The Nikon D7100 is the best camera for still photography, portraits, landscapes, street-photography, and events. Canon has the edge I sportography and video :)

If you want to make movies and are a film enthusiast then do yourself a favor and get the Canon 70D or Panasonic mirrorless systems... You get more for the money and good enough photo quality for still :) Just not better than Nikons Photo quality.

Honestly, it comes down to personal preference :) Learn how to shoot and you can make any camera work for what you do. Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, Olympus, Fuji, Sony...Doesn't matter...

I will post again when me and this little photo beast go out on more dates.

Until next time,
Be safe
